Unlike the standard chopstick making experience where you just move a plane around on a shaft, you can make thin chopsticks using a plane stand designed by the craftsman Kawaguchi! You can make thick chopsticks, square chopsticks, and even octagonal chopsticks if you try hard! This is the only place in Japan where you can make your own easy-to-use chopsticks. Children in the third grade of elementary school can try it out! (For elementary school students, we recommend cypress wood; some people may not be able to carve it at all due to the hardness of mountain cherry wood.) (1,100 yen to be paid on-site) When you apply lacquer, it forms a coating that prevents the wood from absorbing water, protecting the chopsticks from mold and bacteria. Lacquer is made from wood sap and has been used since the Jomon period, so it is safe for your body. There are very few shops that paint Japanese lacquer.
