When you enter the room, the scent of wood fills the air... that alone will relax your mind! Concentrating on making chopsticks will refresh your mind and body! This experience will satisfy all five senses with the fresh air, water, and light of Azumino. Unlike a standard chopstick-making experience where you just move the plane over the axis, you can make thin chopsticks using a plane stand invented by craftsman Kawaguchi! You can make thick chopsticks, square chopsticks, and if you try hard, octagonal chopsticks. This is the only place in the country where you can make your own easy-to-use chopsticks. You can experience it from the third grade of elementary school! (Cypress wood is recommended for elementary school students, and mountain cherry wood is hard so in most cases it cannot be carved at all.) Planing from square wood!? You may think it's difficult, but... the craftsman will carefully teach you how to use the plane. I have been making chopsticks for 12 years. We have experienced this with over 10,000 people, and everyone has made their own chopsticks. The water-repellent ceramic coating is a natural paint, so it is gentle on the body and prevents bacteria without damaging the texture of the wood. *We offer domestic lacquer coating as an option. (1,100 yen payable on site) When lacquer is applied, the wood is coated and does not absorb water, protecting the chopsticks from mold and bacteria. Lacquer is made from the sap of wood and has been used since the Jomon period, so it is safe for the body. There are very few shops that paint with genuine Japanese lacquer.
