Experience the pairing of Japanese cuisine with sake at this historic sake brewery, which is said to have been founded in the Heian period and is now run by the 55th generation of its owners. Sudo Honke in Kasama City can be found within a valley in Ibaraki Prefecture, surrounded by rolling mountains. The region has a long history of producing high-quality rice, and the abundance of clean underground water in the area makes it well-suited for sake brewing. Although brewery tours are not held at Sudo Honke, as temperature and sanitation control is critical, visitors can view the brewery from the tasting room next door. In addition, visitors can enjoy sake selected by the owner himself, to enjoy along with Japanese cuisine.
