Key Information

Description

The Shikoku region may be the smallest of Japan's four main islands, but it's blessed with a wealth of wonders that make it worth visiting! Comprised of four prefectures (Ehime, Kagawa, Kochi, and Tokushima), Shikoku has several claims to fame such as: • The Shikoku Henro pilgrimage trail, consisting of 88 ancient temples and shrines scattered across the region; • Ehime Prefecture's Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's oldest and most famous hot springs, as well as one of the inspirations for the bathhouse in the film Spirited Away; • Kagawa Prefecture's art-filled islands, where the Setouchi Triennale art festival is held every three years, and • Tokushima Prefecture's secluded Iya Valley, known for its unspoiled nature and vine bridges. Although Shikoku is small, traveling from one prefecture to another — or even within a prefecture —can still take considerable time and money, especially if you don't have a car. Get some travel savings while exploring Shikoku with the handy JR Shikoku 3-Day Pass, which grants you unlimited travel on JR Shikoku trains (local and Limited Express only) and fixed-route buses, as well as the Tosa Kuroshio Line, for three consecutive days! At just 11,000 JPY for adults and 5,500 JPY for children aged 6–11, this pass is a good deal for non-Japanese passport holders, be it tourists or foreign residents in Japan. Railway enthusiasts will surely have a great time journeying across Shikoku via the region's charming trains, and those who love rural scenery can enjoy gorgeous views, as some of Shikoku's train routes pass through quaint landscapes and seascapes. Whether you're just visiting Japan, have just newly moved to the country, or are a longtime resident looking to go off the beaten path, don't skip on Shikoku — take this opportunity to save some money while traveling around this region!
