Description

The Kansai region is the spiritual heart of Japan and home to some of Japan's most interesting cities. Explore the vibrant city of Osaka and its amazing food scene, get lost in temples and shrines of ancient Kyoto, feed the deer in Nara, try some exquisite beef in Kobe, visit the stunning Himeji castle or connect with nature in the forests and waterfalls of Wakayama. With so much to see you will want to save time with a rail pass.

Start your adventure by picking up your pass from a passport-reading ticket machine at one of many JR train stations in Kansai, including Kansai International Airport.

From the airport, you can ride the comfortable Kansai-Airport Express "Haruka" to your preferred destination all around the Kansai area, and then transfer to the local trains to continue your journey. The pass includes the Rapid and Special Rapid services, so you'll get to your destination even faster.

Venture down the road less traveled and explore places like Shiga, Tsuruga, or Iga-Ueno. With the JR West Kansai Rail Pass, you'll have access to an extensive network of rail routes and even to JR West Buses.

The JR West Kansai Rail Pass is only available to foreign tourists visiting Japan and not to locals, which is why this is a great opportunity to save on transportation for your trip and enjoy all Kansai has to offer!

How it works

  1. After your booking is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email with a verification code or a QR code
  2. Bring along the unique code and your (non-Japanese) passport to a designated JR train station and exchange it for a physical pass at a ticket vending machine. Instructions in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, and Korean are available at the machines
  3. If you are unable to exchange for a pass at the machine or if your passport does not have an IC chip, please go to the JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) in the station to redeem your pass
  4. After you have received your physical pass, please take it to the ticket vending machine to exchange for reserved seating tickets before use
