What is sumo? Sumo is Japanese martial art wrestling. Kettlebell sumo squats? Sumo deadlifts? RDLs? You have likely heard the term "sumo" mentioned frequently in gym weight training. Sumo is Japan's national sport and a traditional martial art with a history spanning over 1,000 years. In this sport, two fighters compete within a circular ring called a "dohyo." While it may appear very simple at first glance, it is an incredibly profound and intricate discipline.
