Description
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum originated in London and displays numerous life-sized wax figures of famous celebrities. Each figure is incredibly lifelike and realistic, giving visitors an exciting sense of being close to the stars. In Tokyo's Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, you can find not only world-renowned overseas celebrities from Hollywood and sports stars but also a gathering of Japan's most popular stars. The wax figures are not separated by ropes, allowing visitors to take photos with these superstars, pose together, and enjoy an intimate encounter with the celebrities. Creating wax figures is a highly intricate process that requires precision in every step to achieve a lifelike resemblance. After taking precise measurements of the celebrities, the artists take this valuable data back to the waxworks factory in London, where another "celebrity" is created. The process of sculpting the whole body starts with clay, using the recorded data and photographs.
Sculptors first shape the head of the celebrity and create a mold with plaster. By pouring hot wax into the plaster mold and allowing it to cool, the wax figure's head takes shape. The same method is used to create the hands and feet. Initially, the torso requires support from a metal frame, which is later replaced by fiberglass. Once the head is formed, it undergoes intricate processing, including detailed coloring of the eyes, hair, and skin. Glass-like plastic is used for the eyeballs to make the celebrity's eyes look lively, with radial lines hand-painted in the pupils. Even the tiniest details, like the fine blood vessels in the whites of the eyes, are carefully crafted using red silk threads. Making the teeth is an advanced process, involving molding and coloring that resembles creating dentures for the celebrities.
For the celebrity's hair, samples with similar hair quality are collected and individually implanted into the wax figure. After washing, cutting, and styling, the hair is finally groomed into the desired hairstyle, making it an extensive process. The final touch involves the overall finishing of the wax figure. Skin coloring is crucial to make the celebrity look truly lifelike. Based on the skin color of the individual celebrity and their specific skin characteristics, the sculptors prepare the appropriate colors for oil painting on the wax figure. This oil painting gives the wax figure a transparent skin texture unique to human skin. Adjustments to the color are made according to the texture lines, ensuring a more realistic appearance. After coloring, the head and limbs are attached to the fiberglass body, completing the overall assembly.
