Description
Yanagawa "Kawakudari" is a punt tour of the waterways in Yanagawa, which are spread throughout the city like a mesh, including the old castle's moat.
The network of wide and narrow waterways spans a total length of about 470km, creating a unique landscape known as the "Suigo" water district. This beautiful atmosphere has inspired the renowned poet Kitahara Hakushu, who was born and raised in Yanagawa. Many later literati and artists have also been captivated by this landscape, following in Hakushu's footsteps.
This precious historical heritage was developed through the lives and prosperity of the people who lived alongside the water. The waterways play a crucial role in preventing inland flooding by temporarily storing rainwater during stormy seasons. They also supply water for agricultural use and are used in case of firefighting. Even today, the waterways remain deeply intertwined with the daily lives of the people in Yanagawa.
Our punt tours start from Shogetsu Punting Station and end at Ohana (or Okinohata area), covering a distance of about 4km. During the tour, you will pass through the old castle's water gate and peacefully sail downstream for a delightful 60 minutes.
This ticket is for a donko boat charter, which can accommodate up to 6 adults.
Private tours are only available for groups. As you enjoy the boatman's traditional boat song, take in the breathtaking scenery of Yanagawa, which showcases the beauty of all four seasons.
