Overview
Sankeien Garden, located in Yokohama City, is a Japanese garden designated by the national government as a place of scenic beauty, created by the industrialist and tea master Hara Sankei.
It has 17 buildings, including 10 national important cultural properties and 3 tangible cultural properties designated by the City of Yokohama, as well as three-story pagodas, tea houses, and other historical buildings collected from Kyoto, Kamakura, and other areas and skillfully arranged.
The garden is in perfect harmony with the undulating terrain of the expansive grounds.
The seasonal blooms of plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, wisteria, lotus, and autumn leaves, as well as the bright green foliage, accentuate the historical buildings, and allow visitors to enjoy the harmony of the old buildings and nature.
Sankeien Garden is also famous for its cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall. visitors can view seasonal flowers throughout the year.

In such cases, we will not compensate for travel expenses. • Some facilities may be closed due to construction. • Smoking is not permitted in the garden. • Pets (except guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing dogs) are not allowed in the garden. • Wheelchairs are available for rent (there are some steps and slopes in the garden). • Please do not take plants, trees, or animals in the garden (insect nets, etc. are not permitted in the garden). • No bicycles, skateboards, etc. may be ridden in or brought into the garden. • When photographing or sketching, please be considerate of people in the vicinity. 【Food and beverages】 • No food or beverages are allowed in the Naien (Inner garden) or the former Yanohara family residence. • Please take any food and beverages brought in from outside with you and help us keep the garden clean. 【Photo Shooting in the garden】 • Photography is allowed within the scope of personal use. However, please refrain from wearing wedding costumes or cosplay costumes, using multiple pieces of equipment, or shooting in narrow aisles or in a single location that may cause inconvenience to other visitors. • Please refrain from using tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, etc. in the inner garden and the former Yanohara family residence. • Drones are not permitted in the garden. • For commercial use, only businesses that have registered in advance may use the space for a fee. Description
■Gaien (Outer Garden) This area was opened to the public in 1906. The three-storied pagoda, a Muromachi period building moved from Tōmyō-ji Temple in Kyoto, stands as a landmark, and visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers such as Japanese apricots, cherry blossoms, Japanese honeysuckles, and lotus. The view of the three-story pagoda over the pond that opens up as soon as you step into the garden from the main gate is truly breathtaking.
■Naien (Inner garden) The Hara family used this area as their private residence. The garden is centered around the Rinshunkaku, a row of three buildings built in the early Edo period in the shape of geese, and is a delicately designed garden composed of old buildings. Rinshunkaku, a 350-year-old villa of the Kishu Tokugawa family, is the centerpiece of the inner garden landscape.
■Sankein Memorial Hall The museum's exhibition rooms display materials and artifacts related to Sankeien and Hara Sankei.
Visitors can also enjoy sweet dishes such as Sankei-Men (Sankei Noodles), a created by Hara Sankei, at one of the three teahouses in the garden.
