Key Information

Description

The Tokyo National Museum, situated in Ueno, Tokyo, houses around 120,000 artifacts gathered and passed down over 150 years since its establishment. Out of these, 89 are classified as national treasures, and 649 are considered critical cultural properties (as of April 2023), making the collection a true reflection of Japan's quality and quantity of historical and cultural heritage. The Okyokan, a valuable Japanese house, is typically closed to the public. Constructed in 1742 as a study area for the Meigan-in Temple, situated on the outskirts of Nagoya City, the house is located in the residence of Mr. Takashi Masuda (Don'o), the first president of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and a renowned tea master in Shinagawa, Tokyo. In 1933, it was donated to the museum. We have arranged several activities for you to experience Japanese culture while appreciating the fusuma paintings (which are currently reproductions) created by Maruyama Okyo, a painter from the Edo period, such as trying on a kimono, enjoying matcha tea, practicing ZEN breathing, etc. Furthermore, we serve dishes with carefully selected Japanese ingredients and organic beverages. We invite you to take advantage of this rare opportunity and visit us while it lasts.
