This tour combines all about samurai one could hope for! Experience: Swordsmanship (iaido), an art of swordsmanship practiced by samurai Learning: Values the samurai prized Visit: Sword museum and sword shop Purchase: Option to buy the sword and samurai attire used in the experience
Unlock the mystery of the samurai class who ruled Japan for seven centuries, until just 160 years ago. First, experience iaido, an art of swordsmanship practiced by samurai. If you can imagine a samurai swiftly and deftly slicing a roll of straw mat, that is iaido. After arriving at the iaido dojo, change into samurai attire with a sword. Learn from a master what iaido is about, and actually slash through cardboard with a sword. Observe a solo demonstration by the master up close to marvel at his skill, which is especially impressive after your own experience. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end. You also have the option to buy samurai attire or the sword used in the experience. All necessary arrangements can be made on the spot. We will move on to a samurai-related landmark to learn the values that samurai adhered to, and the shogunate regime they lived in. At the sword museum, learn about materials used to produce swords and appreciate the sheer beauty of swords as works of art. We will take you to a sword shop as well. The shop carries authentic Japanese swords and daggers; they are not souvenirs but real ones made to traditional standards. You may want to buy a real sword there to take back home. Otherwise, you can just look around the store. In either case, the guide will help you as an interpreter in the shop. Note: In some rare cases, the sword shop attendants are not available due to traveling for purchase, etc. In this case, we will do whatever is possible to make up for it including taking you to a substitute sword shop, setting up an appointment with the shop for your later visit, etc.
