Overview

Shimane Art Museum, standing on the shore of Shinjiko Lake, is an art museum with the theme of harmonizing with water. From March to September, we are open until 30 minutes after sunset to allow you to enjoy the view of Shinjiko Lake at dusk from the museum, which was selected in the "Japan Sunset Best 100". Here are two types of tickets: an E-ticket for the Museum collection(permanent exhibition) only, and an E-ticket for both the Museum collection and the Special Exhibition.

E-tickets for the "Museum collection (Permanent Collection)" and E-tickets for both the "Museum Collection and the Special Exhibition" are available. 【Museum collection (Permanent Collection)】 The Shimane Prefectural Art Museum has a collection of outstanding works in the fields of painting, sculpture, crafts, and photography. The following exhibits are on display in Rooms 1 through 5, with the content constantly changing. Gallery 1: Waterfront Gallery, Early Modern Paintings/Japanese Paintings, Western Paintings/Western Paintings Gallery 2: Hokusai Collection Gallery 3: Crafts Gallery 4: Photography Gallery 5: Sculpture, Small Exhibitions 【Special Exhibition】 「The Complete Nagata Collection Debut (Chapter One) Hokusai: Shunro Period and Sori Period Compilation」3 February 2023 (Friday) ~ 26 March 2023 (Sunday) This exhibition focuses on the “Shunro” and “Sori” peri-ods of Hokusai (from when he was approximately 20 to 45 years old), with works from the “Nagata Collection,” gifted to Shimane Prefecture by Hokusai researcher Nagata Seiji(1951‒2018). Through approximately 300 works and materials, including hand-painted pieces from the Shunro period, and first-rate surimono formerly owned by the Tsuwano domain (with all 118 works being publicly dis-played in Shimane for the first time), visitors can witness the trajectory of the young Hokusai’s studies and endeavors.
