Echizen Matsushima Aquarium is an experiential aquarium where you can see and touch sea life, and learn about it in a fun way! Dolphin shows and penguin walks are held every day. You can touch sharks, rays, eels, giant octopuses, crabs, shrimp and more; have “doctor fish” clean your hands; feed sea turtles, tortoises, and fish. You can also meet cute small-clawed otters, konpeitou (lumpfish), and sunfish. You are also sure to enjoy the sights of large schools of sardines and hammerhead sharks in the "Ocean Giant Tank" of the Kaiyokan. Why don't you try the "sea surface floating experience" in the “Coral Sea” aquarium? You can stand on the glass-covered surface of the water, and look down at the beautiful fish underwater beneath you — what a wonderful experience! You can also enjoy the "Splash Seawater Pool" where you can swim with 1,000 fish (only in summer), the “Sea Creatures Observation," and the "Beach Seine Experience." In the summer of 2011, the "New Penguin Pavilion" was opened, and we exhibit three types of penguins from the sub-Antarctic Circle. You also can enjoy a restaurant with a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan, and a souvenir shop full of aquarium goods. The 3D stereoscopic theater "Whale and Dinosaur" is also being screened.
