Overview
Sakai Risho no Mori opened on March 20, 2015 as a cultural tourism facility to widely disseminate the unique history and culture of Sakai under the theme of Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko, two figures associated with Sakai. Visitors can learn about Sen no Rikyu and Azuchi-Momoyama period Sakai, and Yosano Akiko and Meiji-Taisho period Sakai, and experience Sakai's history and culture from the museum ""Sakai Risho no Mori"", which offers a tour of the attractive Sakai city. Facing the ruins of Sen no Rikyu's mansion, the facility for experiencing the tea ceremony is equipped with a Ryurei-tea hall (Nankai-an) and authentic tea rooms (Saieiken, Furoken, Tokuchiken, and Muichi-an). At the Ryurei-tea house, visitors can enjoy matcha green tea and Sakai wagashi (fresh confections) on chairs while being served by Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushanokoji Senke tea masters.
