As the largest museum for Ukiyo-e, Japan Ukiyo-e Museum is featured with collection of prints by Moronobu, Masanobu, Harunobu, Shunsho, Buncho, Kiyonaga, Sharaku, Utamaro, and so on. In particular collections of prints issued in the 19th century are the largest one in the world; the museum houses lots of high-quality prints by Hokusai, Eizan, Eisen, Kunisada, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, and Yoshitoshi.

Japan Ukiyo-e Museum was established in 1982 to preserve valuable Ukiyo-e prints, including original paintings and printed books. The prints in its collection were collected by the Sakai family from Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture over a period of about 200 years. The museum is dedicated to collecting, storing, organizing, researching, exhibiting, and publicizing internationally valuable Ukiyo-e works.
