Wakayama Farm in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, has 24 hectares of farmland in the northern part of Utsunomiya City, with the mountains of Nikko in the background. For more than 100 years, three generations of parents and their children have been growing mainly bamboo shoots and chestnuts in this area, following the motto, "Farming is all about cultivating the soil," and keeping in mind the natural recycling method of agriculture. After generations of nurturing rich soil and bamboo, came a time when the crop fell out of fashion and such a bamboo forest became a rare sight indeed. Since then, the bamboo forest at Wakayama Farm has been used as a shooting location for many movies and commercials and is open to the public, so that everyone can get closer to nature and the enchantment of the bamboo forest. Step in among the greenery and relax, forgetting your daily routine, surrounded by the sunlight filtering through the towering stalks and the sound of bamboo grass.
