Description

The British Antique Museum sits on the main street of Kamakura, a one-minute walk from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. The museum exhibits authentic antiques collected over the years by its director, Masaomi Dobashi, who has a strong passion for British culture. The building was designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma. Its facade was inspired by the traditional craft of "Kamakura-bori," for a design fitting to appear on the approach to the ancient capital of Kamakura. The British Antique Museum is composed of four floors, each exhibiting antiques from different periods and themes. Each level is coordinated with themed spaces such as Sherlock Holmes's Room, the Victorian era, and The Georgian Room.
