Chibi Maruko-chan is a shojo manga (girls' comic) series first published in August 1986. Featuring the everyday life and adventures of third-grade student and troublemaker Momoko "Maruko" Sakura, the combined volumes of the comic had sold more than 31 million copies in Japan as of 2006, making it the fifth best-selling shojo manga ever. Japan's one and only museum dedicated to the beloved series is Chibi Maruko-chan Land. It's located in Shimizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, where the author was born. Inside the museum, you can visit Maruko's house, school, and local park, recreated from the world of Chibi Maruko-chan. You can even see a manuscript signed by Momoko Sakura, the creator of Chibi Maruko-chan, as well as materials used in the creation of the anime. There is also a projection mapping display, a variety of seasonal events held, and a gift shop stocked with original merchandise for fans who want to take home a souvenir!
