Key Information

Description

For a mindful respite from the stress, hustle, and bustle of urban life, seek inner peace and partake in this Zen meditation session at Enman-in Temple. Located at Otsu, the capital of Shiga Prefecture that's quite close to Kyoto, this sprawling temple has a long history of over 1,000 years. It's one of only 17 'Monzeki' (temples established by or affiliated with the Imperial Family) across Japan, making it a temple of very high standing. With a scenic garden, a Zen rock garden, and even a small art museum on its grounds, this temple makes for a relaxing stroll. Enman-in's Zen meditation experience is a beginner-friendly one; even children can join in! You'll be guided by a Buddhist priest; just listen to his instructions, and you'll be good to go. Relax as you breathe in and out, take in the fragrant scent of incense, and empty your mind of thoughts while paying attention to your sensations and surroundings. The tranquil silence of the meditation room and the scenery of the garden outside will provide further healing to your senses. When you're done with the experience, you'll be refreshed and ready to face the outside world again. Why not go for a leisurely exploration of the temple grounds before you leave?
