Description
A short ferry ride away from Naha City, Tokashiki Island is the largest of the Kerama islands and a paradise for snorkeling and diving. It's also famous for sea turtle encounters — sea turtles are known to swim up to the shallow waters around the island's beaches to feed during high tide.
Listed as an endangered species, the large sea turtles of the Pacific Ocean are becoming an uncommon sight around the world.
To the far southwest of Japan, however, in Keramashoto National Park, an incredible number of sea turtles have made the pristine waters there their home.
Swimming around carefreely amidst the colorful coral reefs of the lagoon, the sea turtles are a true pleasure to watch.
You can experience their true charm by swimming alongside them at Tokashiki Island, one of Keramashoto’s most famous tropical islands!
At Tokashiki Island, you and your instructor will depart the shore’s white beach on the island’s only yacht — a 26 feet long yacht called “Island” — to the stunning Kerama Blue lagoon.
Once you are dressed in the provided snorkeling gear and learn a bit about the behavior of sea turtles, prepare to be mesmerized by the tropical underwater world that awaits you.
Following the instructor's rules to protect the sea turtles, dive into the cerulean-blue waters and join the large creatures for a swim, watching them eat seagrasses and algae as they drift in the lagoon.
Kerama Blue is also home to an incredible array of brightly colored coral reefs, with some of the most diverse ecosystems of marine life in the world.
Besides sea turtles, you'll also find yourself swimming with schools of tropical fish, in what is reputed as some of the clearest waters in the world.
Beginners are most welcome to join this activity, as a knowledgeable instructor will accompany you and provide a preparatory introduction before snorkeling.
The combination of sea turtles, gorgeous coral reefs, and the joy of swimming alongside marine animals in crystal clear waters make for an experience that you are bound to never forget.
