Description

This guided climbing tour of Mt. Tarumae in Hokkaido’s Shikotsu-Toya National Park is available from June to mid-October. Choose between two available plans according to your schedule and endurance levels.

Plan 1: East Peak Piston Course This tour lasts for about 5 ½ hours, and it will take you to the summit of Mt. Tarumae and back. Recommended for those who want to spend time immersing themselves in Mt. Tarumae’s scenery and the views from the top, it roughly follows this itinerary:

09:00 — Meet your guide, and head for the 7th Station Hut of Mt. Tarumae 09:30 — Prepare to climb Mt. Tarumae 09:45 — Begin climbing 11:25 — Lunch break 12:25 — Begin descending Mt. Tarumae 14:00 — Finish descending; move to the original meeting point 14:30 — Tour ends at meeting point

Plan 2: Outer Rim Course This tour lasts for about 6 ½ hours, and is recommended for those who want to see Mt. Tarumae’s lava dome, a caldera crater that was formed when the volcano erupted in 1909. It roughly follows this itinerary:

09:00 — Meet your guide, and head for the 7th Station Hut of Mt. Tarumae 09:30 — Prepare to climb Mt. Tarumae 09:45 — Begin climbing 11:25 — Lunch break 12:25 — Climb the slopes around Mt. Tarumae’s outer rim 13:25 — Begin descending Mt. Tarumae 15:00 — Finish descending; move to the original meeting point 15:30 — Tour ends at meeting point
