Description
Beautiful nature can be seen everywhere on Mt Daisen, and every nature lover will definitely appreciate the beautiful landscape. This beautiful mountain is 1,729 meters above sea level and the highest peak in the Chugoku region, located in the western part of Tottori prefecture. It was chosen as one of the best 100 mountains in Japan. The mountain has historically been regarded and worshiped as a sacred mountain and has earned the nickname 'Houki Fuji' (Fuji of the Houki area) due to its resemblance to Mt. Fuji.
We have prepared a special plan for all cycling nature-lovers: Downhill Cycling on Mt. Daisen. All cyclists from beginners to advanced are welcome. Please choose the course that best suits your level.
The cycling tour is available from April to November, except during Golden Week spring holiday.
◆ Downhill Cycling A – 17 km Houki Fuji Course (especially recommended for beginners)
From 850 meters above sea level to Mori-no-Kuni at an altitude of 300 meters. Recommended for beginners and first-time travelers to Mt. Daisen. Experienced guides will take you to popular spots along the course.
09:00 Meet up at Mori-no-Kuni, transfer to the start point 09:15 Arrive at the start point, instructions, start ・Cycling; stopping at some highlights on the way 12:00 Arrive at the goal, Mori-no-Kuni, disband *During July and August, the start time will be from 8:45 am.
◆ Downhill Cycling B – 22 km Long Course from Mountain to Sea
A long course from 800 meters above sea level of Mt. Daisen to the Sea of Japan. Especially suitable for intermediate to advanced. Enjoy the ever-changing kaleidoscope of beautiful landscape from beech forests to the blue sea. Experienced guides will take you to unknown spots such as a yogurt factory and a local facility hosted by the building of a former abandoned elementary school. Enjoy communication with local residents.
13:00 Meet up at Mori-no-Kuni, transfer to the start point 13:15 Arrive at the start point, instructions, start ・Cycling, stopping at some highlights on the way 16:30 Arrive at the goal, take you to Mori-no-Kuni 17:00 Disband at Mori-no-Kuni *During July and August, the start time will be from 1:15 pm.
◆ Downhill Cycling & Lunch Making Enjoy downhill cycling on Mt. Daisan, make and enjoy an authentic, seasonal Japanese lunch with sesame tofu, a local specialty.
Taking this tour in the morning you can enjoy a mix of cycling and hiking, visiting secret 'power spots', and conclude the tour with your well-deserved lunch!
On the afternoon tour you will start with lunch, followed by downhill cycling (no hiking).
Morning schedule 09:00 Meet up at Toyama Ryokan; transfer to the start point 09:15 Downhill cycling, followed by hiking, returning to Mori-no-Kuni 11:15 Prepare and eat a delicious Japanese lunch 13:00 Disband
Afternoon schedule 11:30 Meet up at Toyama Ryokan, prepare and eat a delicious Japanese lunch 13:00 Downhill cycling, then transfer back to start point by car 15:30 Disband at Mori-no-Kuni
◆ About Daisen-Oki National Park
Japan's national parks are characterized not only by their beautiful nature, but also the traditional foods and culture of the local people that has been influenced by such nature.
Daisen-Oki National Park is comprised of Mt. Mitoku, Daisen, Hiruzen, Shimane Peninsula, the Mt. Sanbe region, and the Oki Islands. The park features a beautiful variety of scenery and volcanic terrain representative of Japan – from plateaus stretching out from the feet of mountains, to coastal landscapes sculpted by the wind and waves of the Japan Sea, to cultural treasures such as Izumo Taisha Shrine and Daisenji Temple.
