The National Parks of Japan are sanctuaries for a variety of wildlife, and though their homes are protected, anyone who follows the park rules has a chance of seeing them. From the snowy north to the subtropical south, you’ll find countless opportunities to meet the non-human inhabitants of Japan. You can view them from afar on a whale-watching or bear-spotting cruise. You can get up-close and personal at hot springs, or on one of Japan’s ‘animal islands.’ You can even swim with turtles in warm southern waters, or ride horses on coastal trails and broad sweeping plains from Hokkaido to Kumamoto.
