Japan’s Premier Alpine Resort
The Hakuba Valley is a resort area at the very north of the Japanese Alps. While primarily known as one of Japan’s premier ski resort areas, Hakuba attracts visitors all year round with its beautiful nature and all-encompassing facilities that bring luxury and nature together for comfortable adventures in beautiful nature. Experience Hakuba’s wonder by hiking the Happo-one Trail or Tsugaike Nature Park, and enjoying views of the magnificent Hakuba-Sanzan Mountains: Shiroumadake, Shakushidake, and Yarigatake. The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route gateway is at the southern end of the valley, and its high snowy walls flank one of the most famous routes through the park.
Alpine Routes and Famous Gorges
Tateyama is considered one of Japan’s most sacred mountains, and the focal point of this area of the park. The Oyama and Minehonsha shrines at the main peak are visited by many devotees in summer. The famous Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route passes through here, and leads you along such beautiful spots as Midagahara Marshland and the Kurobe Dam. Kurobe Gorge is also an incredibly famous spot—a must-visit!
Symbol of the Japanese Alps
The southern region of the park is home to the Hotaka Mountain Range—symbol of the Japanese Alps. The Shin-Hotaka Ropeway here connects the Shin-Hotaka Hot Springs to Mt. Nishi-Hotakadake, and grants truly incredible views of the Northern Alps from the observation space on the roof of the ropeway terminal. Mt. Norikura and the Norikura Kogen Highland here also spark joy in every visitor. Kamikochi meanwhile, is also special… wondering why? Come along and find out for yourself!
