Reservation can be made at the ticket counter free of charge. If no reservation is made, guests will be charged a carry-on fee on board of 1000 JPY and will have to store their baggage in an area designated by the train attendants • Baggage measuring over 250 cm will not be allowed on board • On some busy journeys (free) seat reservations may be required, but they are not usually needed. Consider reserving seats if traveling during national holidays, or with a large group to be seated together. Green Car seats and certain special trains such as Narita Express always require a seat reservation. • A few Shinkansen trains have smoking carriages, and some seating may be near to separate smoking rooms. For a guaranteed a smoke-free ride, a seat reservation is recommended. • Tickets for Young Children: Infants (ages 1–5) and babies (younger) travel for free on JR trains except in the following cases, when a child ticket is required: 1. When three or more infants accompany one adult or child (tickets are required for each infant after the second). 2. When an infant or baby occupies a reserved seat, Green Car seat or berth, etc. 3. When an infant travels alone. # Conditions for Use: 1. Valid only for the person whose name appears on the pass – must be a foreign national¹ visiting Japan with the entry status of Temporary Visitor and the corresponding stamp in their passport². 2. Present your pass to the attendant at a manned ticket gate to start the pass usage for that day. The attendant will apply a stamp in the space reserved for official use. When passing through a ticket gate, always present your pass to the attendant so that the validity period is visible. 3. You must carry your passport at all times while using the pass and be prepared to present it to conductors or station attendants if requested. 4. Valid for: - Non-reserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen, including the ‘Hello Kitty Shinkansen’ as well as Nozomi and Mizuho services, between Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima - Non-reserved seats on express trains Haruka, Kuroshio, Thunderbird, Kounotori, Super Hakuto (Kyoto–Kamigori) etc. - Note that a separate fare is required for traveling on the Super Hakuto (Kamigori–Tottori) and Super Inaba (Kamigori–Tottori) - Special rapid, rapid, and local train services or JR West conventional lines in the coverage area, including Kyoto Tango Railway and Wakayama Electric Railway - JR-West Miyajima Ferry, West JR Bus, and Chugoku JR Bus within the coverage area 5. Not valid for: - Tokaido Shinkansen (Shin-Osaka–Kyoto) - Sanyo Shinkansen (Hiroshima–Hakata) - Carriages or trains requiring numbered or 'liner' tickets (additional fees apply) 6. The pass itself doesn't ensure specific seating options – to obtain a reserved-seat ticket at no additional cost, present your pass at the ticket office of a JR station. Certain trains require a reserved-seat ticket. Additional fares apply to travel in GranClass or Green Cars, private compartments on Shinkansen or limited express trains, sleeper cars, and DX Green Cars if available in the coverage area of the pass. An extra charge must be paid in advance to ride local trains requiring a numbered ticket or liner ticket. Japan Rail does not allow changing to reserved seating or sleeping car after boarding. 7. The pass can only be used within its validity period, which cannot be changed. 8. The pass cannot be exchanged for other kinds of pass or ticket. 9. The pass cannot be reissued in the event of loss or theft. 10. Exchange Orders can only be refunded by the travel agency from which you purchase them, and any application for refund must be made before the start of the pass validity period. Any refund will be for the value of the pass in yen, less a 10% handling fee³. 11. Once you have started using the pass the validity period cannot be extended, nor can any refund be given, even if trains or other transportation services are suspended or delayed for any reason. The JR Group will not bear additional costs due to changes in your route, such as alternative transportation or accommodation charges. 12. In addition to these conditions, you must obey the JR Group's regulations, terms and conditions, and the laws of Japan while using the pass. 13. Violation of these conditions may result in the invalidation and confiscation of the pass, as well as a penalty equal to twice the basic fares and charges for all transportation for which the pass was used. 14. The official terms and conditions of the pass are written in Japanese, and the text of the Japanese version shall be given priority of interpretation, in the event of questions regarding transportation conditions that may arise regarding conditions that are written in other languages. ¹Japanese nationals who have lived overseas for ten years or more may use the pass under certain conditions.
