Description

Sit back, relax, and enjoy an unforgettable journey of a lifetime on this bus-tour-and-cruise package! From pick-up to drop-off, let us take care of you as you travel comfortably along the Lake Wakatipu and Lake Te Anau, through Fiordland National Park, and around Milford Sound. Your day begins with pick-up from the stop closest to your accommodation in central Queenstown or Te Anau. To kick off your journey, you'll head south, traveling along the shore of Lake Wakatipu, a deep glacial lake surrounded by soaring, steep mountains. The drive continues westward across Northern Southland to Te Anau, where you'll take a half-hour stop at a quaint village nestled on the shores of Lake Te Anau — New Zealand's second-largest lake. Grab a coffee, or walk around to take photos; this 344-square-kilometer lake is very photogenic! Next, head north, where vistas of the vast wilderness of Fiordland National Park unfold on the opposite side of Lake Te Anau, which has freshwater fiords called arms — relics dating back to the Ice Age — on its western side. You'll enter Fiordland National Park via Eglington Valley, and stop for photos and short walks along the way. If you're into photography and breathtaking scenery, you'll surely be delighted! You'll see one gorgeous, majestic landscape after another here: the Upper Hollyford Valley, Mirror Lakes, Lake Gun, Lower Hollyford, Monkey Creek, Homer Tunnel, and Cleddau Valley. Then, you'll take a two-hour cruise around Milford Sound, named by Rudyard Kipling as the eighth wonder of the world. Aboard a spacious three-deck catamaran, you'll sail to the Tasman Sea and back. Marvel at the sights around you: glacial forms, majestic cliffs and peaks, and towering waterfalls dropping from valleys directly into the fjord — sometimes forming rainbows in the process. Stand on the bow as the boat passes Stirling Falls, and you'll get a free shower courtesy of this famous waterfall! And, if you're lucky, you might see the area's marine wildlife from meters away: fur seals, bottle-nosed dolphins, and the rare Fiordland crested penguin In addition to these impressive sights, you'll also get fascinating commentary: Milford Sound's history, local Maori legends, why Captain Cook failed to discover this fjord, and more. Plus, for additional convenience, enjoy complimentary tea on-board, as well as a light lunch. Finally, you'll return to your starting point in Queenstown or Te Anau. Rest up after a day well spent!
