On this private three-hour guided tour, you’ll get to learn about the fascinating life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (also affectionately known as Empress Sisi) while you explore the Royal Palace of Gödöllö, her former summer residence. Often compared to the Versailles Palace, Gödöllö is an imperial and royal Hungarian palace that is also one of the world’s grandest Baroque palaces. The palace is built in a U shape and is surrounded by a large park. It changed owners many times before it was gifted to Emperor Franz Joseph I, and was the favorite summertime residence of his wife, Empress Elisabeth. Between the two world wars, the palace served as a residence of the regent, Horthy Miklós. In 1945, it fell into decay, and the reconstruction of the palace itself only began once the last of the Soviet troops left Hungary. Your privat tour guide will show you around the castle and regale you with stories about the castle’s history. After your tour, you’ll get to enjoy a cup of coffee in a cafe on the palace grounds, before you return to your hotel by private car.
