An icon of the Metabolism architectural movement that emerged in post-war Japan, Nakagin Capsule Tower is a fascinating structure in Tokyo with significant cultural value for design enthusiasts worldwide. Unless you book a special tour of the venue, or rent one of its capsules to stay, Nakagin Capsule Tower is, in most cases, off-limits to casual visitors. But in this unique opportunity, you’ll get to tour and virtually explore the tower’s interiors while in the comfort of your home! Your online tour will be led by a passionate and knowledgeable professional guide. Through commentary accompanied by photos, they will share the story of this building with you, and answer all your burning questions about it. Why was the tower built? What is Metabolism? Why was architect Kisho Kurokawa chosen to design this building? Why is it loved by design enthusiasts worldwide? And will the building really be demolished? Your tour will also give you a glimpse into the lifestyle of a resident in the tower, as well as efforts made to preserve the building and save it from demolition. You’ll get to see not only the interiors of the building, but also valuable artifacts collected from residents of the tower. Most important of all, as a tour participant, you’ll be helping to save the tower from demolition! This tour is supported by the Nakagin Capsule Tower Preservation & Restoration Project, and a part of the fee you pay will go towards supporting the project.
